The meeting was introduced by Martin Bareš, Rector of Masaryk University, who emphasized the importance of social security as a key component for the effectiveness of study, work and research of persons employed at universities. Subsequently, the Ombudsman of Masaryk University, Eva Janovičová, together with the Ombudsman of Charles University, Kateřina Šámalová, presented an e-course for employees - Social security in the academic environmentthat they created together. This course is based on increased demand from university staff and aims to raise awareness of possible ways of dealing with problematic and conflict situations, including the possible consequences of not respecting ethical rules. This course currently takes different forms of graphic representation and will vary according to the institutions adapting the course.
Kateřina Šámalová also presented the methodology developed to investigate stimuli of inappropriate behaviour. Afterwards, a discussion and focus group was held to discuss other examples of appropriate preventive measures that have been introduced or are planned to be introduced at other universities. The meeting demonstrated how the Czech academic environment is currently undergoing a dynamic transformation and the awareness of the importance of social safety among various actors (management, students, rank and file academics).
